Thesis Project

My thesis project revolves around self-reliance and sustainability. Illness is on the rise and there are a number of dietary researchers that have found ingredients used in processed foods may be the cause due to their cancer causing properties. With the rising costs of healthcare, many are left without help. So what can we do to take back our health?

Over the past few summers my mother has tended to a small garden, harvesting crops, and she loves it. She saves money amid rising food costs, while growing something fresh and nutritious, benefiting both family and the environment. Helping her provides a deep sense of self satisfaction.

Now with my eyes open to the importance of a healthy diet for a healthy planet, I wanted to provide the same inspiration to others with a seed starter kit, perfect for first timers or those with little space.

The idea for BloomBox was to create a starter kit that includes four seed packets with labels, one soil package, a set of tools, and eight seed starter pots. Hand-done elements like the patterns, drawings, and the logo give this brand a more organic feel that ties back to nature, but also gives a personal touch that is friendly and welcoming. As for the name, I chose a title that included an alliteration due to their rhythmic quality and their ability to stand out while staying simple. I ultimately wanted this design to be welcoming to those who might be starting their gardening journey and put them at ease with personal touches so they know that they can do it. All they have to do is open the box.
